Body contouring is a general term used when removal of excess skin and liposuction are combined to reshape the contour of the body. Often, body contouring is necessary after massive weight loss either after diet and exercise or bariatric weight loss surgeries such as gastric bypass and Lap-Band placement. Popular areas addressed during body contouring include the lower body, upper arms, abdomen, breasts and chest wall. During your initial consultation, Dr. Ness will review your family and personal medical history along with your weight loss progress and stability.

Liposuction targets the removal of troublesome, diet- and exercise-resistant deposits of fat on many areas of the body and the face. Even those who exercise regularly and have reduced overall body fat and still find themselves with the same problem areas. Liposuction re-contours annoying areas of localized fat. The results can be incredible, even though your total loss many change only minimally.
During the initial consultation Dr. Ness will evaluate your medical history and determine if liposuction would be an appropriate surgery for you. Dr. Ness and his nurse will take the time to educate you about liposuction surgery and welcome all of your questions about the surgery, our practice, and recovery after your liposuction surgery.
Dr. Ness will carefully mark your areas of concern and work with you to attain the shape you desire. Liposuction is an effective procedure for the arms, tummy, hips, back, chest wall of men, inner thighs and outer thighs, inner knees, ankles and neck. If the skin is too loose, liposuction may result in sagging of the skin. Loose muscles after childbirth may also result in persistent bulging, despite thorough liposuction. In this case, Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck is required to tighten the skin and muscles, and flatten the tummy. If the skin of the upper arms is loose, an upper arm lift or brachioplasty may be more appropriate.
If you do have liposuction and have previously considered augmenting or plumping your lips or deep creases of the face, the fat removed during the procedure can be specially prepared and injected into these areas, providing a long-lasting, natural filler. Please ask Dr. Ness about combining liposuction and fat transfer procedures during your initial consultation.
Liposuction is a same day procedure performed under a general anesthetic. Often, Dr. Ness will be able to target different areas of the body during the same procedure or combine liposuction with other surgeries such as a tummy tuck, upper arm lift, or breast procedures. Your safety is of upmost importance and Dr. Ness will carefully evaluate your complete medical and family history along with the extent of the procedures you are considering to determine if multiple surgeries can safely be combined.
Following your liposuction surgery, you will be cared for by the nursing staff in the recovery room. When you are fully awake and comfortable, you will be released to the care of a family member or friend with a list of after-care instructions. There will be guidelines for after-care. Following surgery, you will need to wear an elastic support garment for up to six weeks.
We will schedule post operative follow up appointments in one of our clinics periodically throughout the next 4-6 weeks.
